GoBeyond is an early stage start-up striving to harness the potential of insects for future food and feed. Processing of organic waste, processing and decomposition of such wastes, which will have a positive effect. By growing such insects the process also represents some kind of recycling of waste (process), when the larvae are released as excrement, are used as organic fertilizer. There were analyzes performed in Kosovo with regards to such process.
This project introduces a new agricultural branch and at the same time stimulates the creation of new processing companies for end-products for food and animal feed; it is another element to source locally for local use. They reduce dependency on imports. They believe in the importance of sustainable economic action and know their responsibility to create fair and just workplaces.
Using insects to turn bio-waste into valuable products integrates fully into a circular economy approach, it creates ZERO waste and reduces significantly CO2-emissions otherwise emitted from degradation of biomass in landfills.
On the sourcing side, they connect to local supermarket-chains, restaurants, food processors, etc. Their clients are farmers, feed and pet-food producers in Kosovo. They have a Memorandum of Cooperation with the University of Prishtina to attract young scientists and integrate science in their activities.
GoBeyond aim to raise awareness that “waste” is valuable, that all organic matter can be used and must not end up in landfills. It introduces innovation to agriculture, contributes to a public discourse to reflect traditional ways of agriculture and eventually creates new jobs in different settings like: waste segregation, insect rearing, processing, etc. – in urban and rural areas.
